French designer and self-taught architect Jean Prouvé applied innovative manufacturing techniques to art and design, focusing on standardized, affordable furniture and portable houses, like the Maison Tropicale. His work, celebrated for its graceful simplicity, is showcased in "Constructive Imagination," featuring over 100 pieces alongside sketches and five unpublished essays, including one by curator Juliet Kinchin. Born in Paris in 1901, Prouvé achieved immediate success after opening his workshop in Nancy in 1923 and is renowned for his influential designs, including gas stations for Shell and Mobile. He continued working until his death in 1984.
