Raoul Ubac (1910–1985) was a French artist whose practice moved fluidly across photography, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. Associated with the Surrealists in 1930s Paris, he gained early recognition for his experimental photographs—most notably Tête du Mannequin—often created in dialogue with artists like André Masson. Largely self-directed, Ubac traveled extensively across Europe before settling into a career that evolved from photography into painting and lithography, where his work retained a quiet intensity and material sensitivity.
