TOP OF MIND - EDITION 07

A semi-regular round up of the things our fearless leaders can’t stop thinking about…

Jos’ Picks

01. QUIET BEAUTY One of our designers, the immensely chic and talented Victoria, just got back from a hugely inspiring trip to China, and I’ve been living vicariously through her photos. I keep coming back to the images from her visit to Chinese artist Qi Baishi’s home and studio. Every corner contains a quiet moment of unselfconscious beauty. Nothing seems overly-styled or showy or designed for a perfect social media post; rather, it feels like a collection of achingly beautiful, useful things. Pure perfection.

02. DRESS UP On any given day at the studio, we might find ourselves going from a construction-heavy site walk to a more formal (i.e. less dusty) client meeting before heading to an early evening event. Dressing for this motley assortment of activities is always a bit of a puzzle. My solution: a spare pair of chunky heels in my car and a statement necklace in my purse (plus some sort of grime-removing device due to the aforementioned site walk). Lately, the necklace has been one of Her New Tribe’s ceramic numbers. I’m partial to a black-and-gold one on a simple black cord, but I’m dying to add this perfect sienna-and-silver number to my repertoire.

03. GOOD IMPRESSION Louise Nevelson has long been one of my favorite artists. Her monumental, monochromatic assemblages made from found wooden objects and reclaimed debris always felt a little renegade and punk rock to me (not unlike the artist herself, typically adored with deep kohl eyeliner and piles of heavy, sculptural necklaces.) I never fail to walk away from one of her pieces feeling a little unmoored, in the best way possible. So to have one of her works in the shop feels incredible special to me. The fact that she made this particular work, a cast paper relief entitled “White,” at age 85 makes it even more badass, yes?

Sam’s Picks

04. GLOBAL GATHERING Our studio sits right on Main Street in downtown Dallas, and lately, the neighborhood has been a vibrant, festive whirlwind of international visitors. The sidewalks are lined with fans eager to spot their favorite athletes, while others march in spirited parades, draped in team colors and chanting in unison. It is a beautiful, chaotic energy.
Each morning during our coffee run at Commissary, we encounter new groups of soccer fans from Norway, Japan, and beyond. Listening to the melodic overlap of different languages while they linger over lattes makes the entire world feel wonderfully intimate and connected.
Bret recently introduced me to the work of Florence Pernet, a photographer who has been capturing the World Cup in an entirely unique way—by photographing the matches directly from her television screen. The resulting images are dreamily impressionistic, perfectly distilling the blur of movement, spirit, and collective joy we’ve been feeling right here in Dallas.
There is something deeply comforting about witnessing such a massive surge of happiness congregating in our hometown and echoing throughout the rest of the country.
Truly stunning work, @flo_pernet

05. RESET BUTTON The onset of summer arrived for my family with a bit of a roar—an intense mix of pure delight and real hurdles. Amidst the whirlwind, this small, rhythmic habit I practice twice a day has become my essential grounding force.
Several years back, while navigating a frustrating bout of hormonal acne, I had the good fortune of meeting Heather Reay. She managed to distill my over-complicated regimen down to a mere four essentials. It was a revelation; not only did my complexion finally find its peace, but my vanity felt suddenly, beautifully serene and sparse.
I often think about how lucky I was that she stepped in to course-correct my routine. It has shifted my daily experience in such a tangible, lovely way.
The standout for me remains the prickly pear seed oil. There is something profoundly soothing about both greeting the morning and bidding the day farewell with its application.

06. ITZACULT Despite the summer heat outside, our studio remains inexplicably, persistently chilly.
In response, we have quietly introduced a small, curated capsule that honors the unique spirit of Swoon CULTure.
It has been a long-standing studio joke to refer to ourselves as a cult, born from our shared, singular obsession with creating beautiful work. This collection serves as a playful nod to that internal shorthand. Eschewing bold graphics and overt branding, these pieces are rooted in the same understated elegance that defines our design philosophy.
The delight is in the subtle details: the substantial weight of the fleece, embroidery in tonal shades that shift with the light, and a custom-shaped hat that feels like a lucky vintage find rather than a new purchase.
Just three considered objects for one very content cult.
